If you build it, they will come
But not in a dream, nor have I seen Joe Jackson. CommonPaths is a not-for-profit community-driven software free software. I only charge for maintenance and support. The hours I spent building it are countless, but it is a token of my admiration for science, my teachers and my colleagues who I cherish and appreciate. Therefore, I am not asking for any donations. Here is how you can contribute:
- Spread the word: tell your administration, colleagues and friends about CommonPaths. There are no funds available for advertising, only word of mouth
- Send me your ideas: Tell me how to improve the software, or what you think would benefit you and make your work easier, technology-wise
- Send me a thank you email: Only if CommonPaths is installed at your institute. I will cherish it and post it on the website as a certificate, even if it is negative
- Auditor: Vounteer as an auditor, only if CommonPaths is installed at your institute, and you are competent in one of the workload systems. Pick 50 random cases to audit, or any number you choose, and validate that the workload calculated by CommonPaths is correct, and if not, tell me what I did wrong.
- Support: Vounteer as a customer support, only if CommonPaths is installed at your institute, and you are familiar with it. You will be responsible to troubleshoot and answer customers qustions during a specified time of your choosing, and I can take a vacation.
- Take over: if you are a pathologist who is versed in programming, invested in CommonPaths ideology, and would like to carry the torch when I retire, we can work together to pass the helm
My aspiration for the long-term, is that the major software companies of Pathology understand the needs and requirements of our profession to include these functionalities in their systems. Until then, we should guide them and not accept staus-quo. Only then, we can put CommonPaths to rest.
