Hi, my name is Fawaz Halwani.
I am a gastrointestinal pathologist at the Ottawa General hospital and the university of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada. In my spare time, I enjoy writing software for myself, my wife and my job. I believe Pathology has fallen behind other medical specialties in utilizing technology, automation and data-mining. I hope you consider using this not-for-profit software in the hope it will make your life better.
Unfortunately, CommonPaths cannot be offered as an out-of-the-box download. It requires a specific interface for each site to match their AP system. I already have 3 active installations, one to PowerPath, one to Meditech and one to Cerner Mellinium. I am happy to create other interfaces for free with your collaboration and help.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Cost
Whether you choose the standalone version (a single station) or the client/server version (unlimited users), your budget will be:
- Hardware and OS: to be purchased and installed by your institute
- Software Licence and Installation: free ($1 annual fee for logistic and copyright issues)
- Training, maintenance and support: C$ 5,000 first year, C$ 2,500 additional years (payable after installation and going live)
Hardware Requiremets
The hardware, operating system and network configuration are best handled by your IT department according to their in-house standards. The minimum system requirements are:
- Database server: One dedicated server, 2 x 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor CPU, 8 GB DDR4, 512 GB HD, Windows Server 2012 R2 or higher
- Application server: One dedicated PC, 2 x 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor CPU, 4 GB DDR4, 256 GB HD, Windows 8 Professional or higher
- Standalone: One dedicated PC, 2 x 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor CPU, 4 GB DDR4, 256 GB HD, Windows 8 Professional or higher
These are the minimum requirements, but as you are aware, better hardware will increase speed and performance. The recommended hardware is to double the minimum requirements.
Small departments (1-5 pathologists) can run on the standalone version from a single dedicated PC. Larger departments are best served with the client/server version and should budget for 1 database server and 1 application server.
